ALAN NORRISAlan originates from Kings Lynn, and began his musical career as a trombonist with the Kings Lynn St. John's Ambulance Brigade Brass Band. At the age of 15 he joined the 1st battalion East Anglian regiment where he gained his knowledge of big bands. After 25 years service he retired from the forces and moved to March. Since moving here he has played with the Anglia Jazz Orchestra, Alex Gordon Dance Orchestra and The C.S. Big Band from Boston. He is an all round musician who enjoys playing anything from trad-jazz to classical. His only ambition left is to keep the Alan Norris Big Band going. |

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BANDThe Alan Norris Big Band was formed eleven years ago and now is the leading amateur Big Band in the area. The Big Band has performed with many leading people in the Big Band world such as Don Lusher (Trombonist with the Ted Heath Band and Tommy Whittle (Saxophonist from the Stan Kenton Band) to name just two. The band is known all over East Anglia and plays to sell out audiences wherever they go. Alan Norris left the Royal Anglian Regiment some years ago, where he was a Band Sergeant Major, also master of S.O.L.F. (Sultan of Oman Land Forces Band) and since has put together a group of outstanding amateur muscians and many ex-professionals. The band comprises of eighteen musicians, plus male and female singers and conductor , Alan Norris. The band is supported by P.A. equipment and sound engineer. The band plays for concerts, playing traditional Big Band music such as Glenn Miller, Ted Heath, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and Buddy Rich, plus many more. For dances, the band plays Quick Steps, Waltzes, Foxtrots, Sambas, Cha-Cha's, Rhumbas and Sixties Rock and Roll if required. Prices are worked out on distance. The starting price is £1000.00. This is usually for venues within a 10 mile radius from base in March, Cambridgeshire. We would recommend you contact either Scott Chapman or Alan Norris for a price for events which exceed this distance. You must appreciate that we are not a full time professional band and must consider that most of the players have full-time jobs. This limits us to long distance travelling |
